Hope (Ship) logbook, 1795.

This incomplete logbook of the ship Hope details a shipping voyage from London to New York, Mar.-May 1795. The ship's master was Nathan Hagley. The logbook includes notes on passenger traffic aboard this cargo ship, including women and children, and the mistreatment of passengers; the disorderly conduct and punishment of merchant mariners on board; shipboard occupations; and a fire on board the ship. During its voyage, the Hope spoke the schooner Lighthorse (out of Salem), the ship Richmond (out of Norfolk?), and the vessels (of unknown rigging) Andrina (out of Philadelphia), and Lucy and Susan (both out of Boston).
